China denounces US for calling space a ‘Warfighting Domain’

July 21, 2022 — SpaceWar.com reports: “Last month, the US Space Force (USSF) launched a new intelligence center and US Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines called space ‘a warfighting domain.’ The military branch was launched in 2019 as Washington began to fret it was losing its half-century of dominance in US orbit.

The Chinese government has denounced the United States’ militarization of space, calling on Washington to allow space to be a peaceful domain instead of seeking to control it exclusively.

‘Space is a global public sphere and a key factor in humanity’s security and wellbeing. Preventing space arms race is an important prerequisite for ensuring peace, tranquility and sustainable use of outer space,’ Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told reporters on Tuesday.

‘The US is the main driver in turning outer space into a weapon and a battlefield. China rejects ‘concern’ by NASA chief about Beijing militarizing the moon

July 6, 2022 — SpaceWar.com reports: “The Chinese government hit back on Tuesday at the head of the American space program over remarks he made in an interview that suggested Beijing is seeking to militarize the moon.

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson criticized China in the interview with German newspaper Bild and said there should be concern about Chinese efforts to explore the moon.

‘We must be very concerned that China is landing on the moon and saying: ‘It’s ours now and you stay out.’‘ Nelson said according to Newsweek.

Nelson also accused China of learning how to destroy the satellites of other countries in space.

Beijing has significantly ramped up its space program over the last decade and has put a special focus on exploring the moon. It sent its first lunar lander in 2013 and hopes to send astronauts to the moon by 2030 and build a lunar base a few years later. In late 2020, China became the second country to unfurl its flag on the surface of the moon…”

Report: FBI Believes Huawei Telecom Equipment Can Capture and Disrupt U.S. Military Communications

July 25, 2022 — Breitbart.com reports: “An FBI investigation into Chinese land purchases near critical infrastructure as well as the Huawei equipment found on many American cell towers has found the Chinese company’s telecom gear capable of capturing and even disrupting U.S. military communications, including that of the U.S. Strategic Command, which oversees America’s nuclear arsenal, according to a report by CNN.

According to a CNN report based on interviews with 12 current and former intelligence officials, Chinese telecom giant Huawei has been the subject of investigations by the FBI who now believes that the company’s equipment has the ability to snoop on U.S. military communications, and even disrupt communications when activated.

Donald Trump put policies in place largely banning Huawei from the United States, considerably damaging the company’s profits, but the equipment remains on many cell towers, including those strategically placed near critical military infrastructure…”

MI5, FBI chiefs warn over China in rare joint address

July 7, 2022 — SpaceWar.com reports: “The heads of MI5 and the Federal Bureau of Investigation warned Wednesday about China’s commercial espionage thrust in the West, in a rare joint address at the British intelligence service’s London headquarters.

Speaking to an audience of officials and business executives in Thames House, MI5 Director General Ken McCallum and FBI Director Chris Wray said the threat from Chinese spies is paramount in both countries and only continues to grow.

McCallum said MI5, the British domestic intelligence service, had sharply expanded its China-focused operations.

‘Today we’re running seven times as many investigations as we were in 2018,’ he said…”

China says it drove away US destroyer that sailed near disputed isles

July 13, 2022 — The Jerusalem Post reports: “A US destroyer sailed near the disputed Paracel Islands in the South China Sea on Wednesday, drawing an angry reaction from Beijing, which said its military had ‘driven away’ the ship after it illegally entering territorial waters.

The United States regularly carries out what it calls Freedom of Navigation Operations in the South China Sea challenging what it says are restrictions on innocent passage imposed by China and other claimants.

The US Navy said the USS Benfold ‘asserted navigational rights and freedoms in the South China Sea near the Paracel Islands, consistent with international law.’

China says it does not impede freedom of navigation or overflight, accusing the United States of deliberately provoking tensions.

The People’s Liberation Army’s Southern Theatre Command said the US ship’s actions seriously violated China’s sovereignty and security by illegally entering China’s territorial waters around the Paracels, which are also claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan…”

‘Missile alert’: Taiwan holds air-raid exercise amid China tensions

July 25, 2022 — The Jerusalem Post reports: “Roads emptied and people were ordered to stay indoors in parts of Taiwan, including its capital Taipei, on Monday for an air-raid exercise as the island steps up preparations in the event of a Chinese attack.

Sirens sounded at 1:30 p.m. (0530 GMT) for the mandatory street evacuation drills, which effectively shut towns and cities across northern Taiwan for 30 minutes.

A ‘missile alert,’ asking people to evacuate to safety immediately, was sent via text message.

‘It is necessary to make preparations in the event of a war,’ Taipei mayor Ko Wen-je said in a speech after overseeing drills for the exercise named Wan An, which means everlasting peace.

China claims democratically ruled Taiwan as its territory and has never ruled out taking the island by force. Taiwan rejects China’s sovereignty claim and vows to defend itself…”

US Warns It will Defend Ally if China Breaks Sea Ruling

July 12, 2022 — Voice of America News reports: “U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken renewed a call to China to comply with a 2016 arbitration ruling that invalidated Beijing’s vast claims in the South China Sea and warned that Washington is obligated to defend treaty ally Philippines if its forces, vessels or aircraft come under attack in the disputed waters.

Blinken’s statement, issued by the U.S. Embassy in Manila on Tuesday, was released on the sixth anniversary of the 2016 decision by an arbitration tribunal set up in The Hague under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea after the Philippine government complained in 2013 against China’s increasingly aggressive actions in the disputed sea.

China did not participate in the arbitration, rejected its ruling as a sham and continues to defy it, bringing it into territorial spats with the Philippines and other Southeast Asian claimant states in recent years…”
