After Jacob took his father’s blessing, Esau went to the house of Ishmael and married his daughter. For thousands of years, Jewish tradition has read that wedding in the Book of Genesis as a preview of the End of Days, when the heirs of Esau, the Christian West, and the heirs of Ishmael, the Islamic world, join forces against Israel in the final stage before the war of Gog and Magog. This month, in the halls of the Church of England, that wedding took place again.
