CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH

From atheism to awakening: Gen Z turns back to God

August 19, 2025ChristianToday.com reports: “A new poll suggests that Britain may well be in the midst of a spiritual shift, with belief in God among young adults more than doubling in the past four years.

The YouGov survey found that 37 per cent of 18 to 24 year olds now say they believe in a God, compared with just 16 per cent in August 2021. The same poll showed that atheism among this group has dropped sharply, from 49 per cent in 2021 to 32 per cent today.

The figures appear to support claims of a ‘quiet revival’ among younger generations. The Bishop of Lancaster, Rt Rev Jill Duff, told The Telegraph

‘I’m not surprised by this … It is very much what we are seeing on the ground in our churches,’ she said…”  (…when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? – Luke 18:8. This article gives us hope that there will be faith.

The Bible tells us: Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it. – Amos 8:11-12.

Thankfully, God always has a faithful remnant.  In I Kings 19 following the victory over the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, Elijah fled to the wilderness after hearing a threat from Jezebel.  We read: …he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.  And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.  And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.  And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.  And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.  And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?  And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.  And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:  And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.  And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?  And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.  And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:  And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.  And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.  Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him. – I Kings 19:4-18 [Emphasis mine].  Thank God for His faithful remnant.)

Attacks on U.S. Churches Doubled in 2024, Report Shows

August 13, 2025Crosswalk.com reports: “A new report released by the Washington-based conservative Christian advocacy organization, The Family Research Council (FRC), recorded over 400 acts of hostility against churches across the United States. FRC’s ‘Hostility against Churches in the United States’ report, which was released Monday morning, ranged from vandalism and arson to gun-related threats, bomb hoaxes, and physical assaults.

The report found at least 415 hostile acts across 43 states, affecting 383 churches, based on open-source documents, media reports, and official records, The Christian Post reported.

‘Although the motivations for many of these incidents remain unknown, the rise in crimes against churches is taking place in a context in which fewer Americans are attending religious services or identifying with a specific faith,’ the report notes…”  (Jesus stated the reason for the persecution of Christians worldwide.  It is because the world hates Him.  Why? If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin… If I had not done among them the works that none other man did, they had not had sin… – John 15:22, 24.  Before Jesus came to the earth, mankind could look at each other and say “I’m not as bad as that person is, I’ve never murdered, I’ve never stolen,” much like the Pharisee did in Luke 18:10 – 14 – I thank thee that I am not as other men... Once Jesus came to the earth, those rationalizations were no longer valid.  As a result, the world strikes out against God, and against Christians.  Jesus also stated in Matthew 5:10 – 12: Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.  Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.)

Islamic State Beheads Christians, Burns Churches in Mozambique Rampage

August 8, 2025Breitbart.com reports: “The Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) warned this week of a ‘silent genocide’ in Mozambique, where Islamic State jihadis are destroying churches, burning down villages, and beheading Christians – and then posting triumphant photos and videos of their atrocities online.

MEMRI has long specialized in posting and translating videos from the Middle East that have been ignored or suppressed by local and international media outlets. The Washington, DC-based Institute’s work frequently demonstrates that what Arab leaders say to domestic audiences is very different from what they tell foreign reporters.

In this case, ISIS terrorists in Mozambique have been giddily posting evidence of their attacks on Christians, but it took MEMRI to pull the gruesome social media posts together into a narrative about ethnic and religious cleansing…”  (Great persecution will soon overtake most Christians in a majority of the world.  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. – Matthew 5:10 – 12; If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.  If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.  Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.  But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. – John 15:18 – 21; …When he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held.  — Revelation 6:9; …I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. – Revelation 20:4; and Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life. – Revelation 2:10. Over 7,000 Christians killed in Nigeria so far in 2025 – watchdog

August 20, 2025ChristianToday.com reports: “Islamic extremists and radicalized herder militias have killed over 7,000 Christians within the first 220 days of 2025, a new report estimates, as human rights advocates continue to criticize the Nigerian government’s inability to protect Christians.

The Anambra-based International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), headed by Christian criminologist and researcher Emeka Umeagbalasi, reported that at least 7,087 Christians ‘were massacred across Nigeria’ from Jan. 1 until Aug. 10.

During that time, ‘no fewer than 7,800 others were violently seized and abducted for being Christians,’ the report estimates. The organization relies on what it deems to be credible local and foreign media reports, government accounts, reports from international rights groups and eyewitness accounts to compile statistical data.

‘The brutal massacre of an estimated 7,087 Christians and abduction of 7,800 others also translated to an average of 30 Christian deaths per day and more than one per hour,’ Intersociety’s report reads. ‘An estimated 35 Christians are also calculated to have been abducted daily and roughly two others per hour, in the said past 220 days or seven months and ten days of 2025.’…”

Man Arrested After Suspected Mass Poisoning of Children at Christian Summer Camp

August 1, 2025Breitbart.com reports: “Eight children were taken to a hospital and a ‘critical incident’ declared by police after a report was made of an alleged mass poisoning at a Christian rural retreat in Leicestershire.

A 76-year-old man was arrested by Leicestershire Police on Monday and is being question by detectives on suspicion of ’administering poison/a noxious thing with intent to injure/aggrieve/annoy’ after children fell ill at a summer camp.

Ten ambulances and an air ambulance helicopter responded to Stathern Lodge, near the village of Plungar in Leicestershire on Monday and ultimately removed eight children to hospital. All eight children were subsequently discharged.

Assistant Chief Constable James Avery said: ‘Officers have been in contact with the parents and guardians of those children taken to hospital. ’I can confirm that a 76-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of administering poison or a noxious substance…”  (…whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched – Mark 9:42 – 44.)
