The Great Creator

Napoleon said: “I marvel that whereas the ambitious dreams of myself, Caesar, and Alexander should have vanished into thin air, a Judean peasant — Jesus — should be able to stretch His hands across the centuries and control the destinies of men and nations.” But the dismayed fallen leader had forgotten to take into consideration the fact that Jesus was far more than a Judean peasant.

Had Jesus been but a man, He could not have atoned for the sins of the world. It was the great Creator who came down in human form to redeem His creation. No wonder He spoke with authority. No wonder the wind and waves were subject to Him. No wonder death could not hold Him.

John explains that Christ is the source of light and life. Doubters used to attack the reliability of the Bible account of creation because light is said to have been created before the sun. Now we know that there are other sources of light in the universe. How foolish to suppose that the Creator would be dependent upon the sun for illumination. That fiery ball is but one of His deputies assigned to provide light and physical life to planet earth.

At the moment of new birth, the same creative power that called the universe into existence becomes active within the believer: “Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
