Putin allies eye prolonged conflict in Ukraine

May 25, 2022 — SpaceWar.com reports: “Top allies of President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Moscow was ready for a prolonged conflict in Ukraine in order to achieve the Kremlin’s goals in the pro-Western country.

The hostilities, which entered their fourth month Tuesday, have killed thousands of people, displaced more than eight million and forced more than six million refugees to flee across the borders.

‘We will continue the special military operation until all the objectives have been achieved, regardless of the massive Western aid to the Kyiv regime and the sanctions against Russia,’ Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told regional counterparts from the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organization.

He added that Moscow’s efforts to avoid civilian casualties ‘are of course slowing down the pace of the offensive, but this is deliberate’.

Ukraine conflict: Russian soldiers seen shooting dead unarmed civilians

May 13, 2022 — BBC.com reports: “When Leonid Pliats and his boss were shot in the back by Russian soldiers, the killing was captured on CCTV cameras in clear and terrible detail. The footage, which was obtained by the BBC, is now being investigated by Ukrainian prosecutors as a suspected war crime.

It was the height of the fighting around Kyiv and the main roads into the capital were a battlefield, including around the bicycle shop where Leonid worked as a security guard.

But this was no firefight: the video clearly shows heavily armed Russian soldiers shooting the two unarmed Ukrainians and then looting the business…”

Kremlin: Finland joining NATO ‘definitely’ threat to Russia

May 12, 2022 — SpaceWar.com reports: “The Kremlin said Thursday that neighbouring Finland joining NATO would ‘definitely’ represent a threat to Russia, after the Finnish leadership backed entering the US-led alliance.

‘The expansion of NATO and the approach of the alliance to our borders does not make the world and our continent more stable and secure,’ Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

When asked whether Finland’s membership would be a threat, Peskov answered: ‘definitely’.

‘Everything will depend on how this process takes place, how far the military infrastructure will move towards our borders,’ he said.

Earlier on Thursday, Finland’s president and prime minister said they were in favour of joining NATO and a formal decision would be taken this weekend…”
