RIA Novosti reports: “A Russian guided-missile destroyer that called in the Syrian port of Tartus last week left it to carry out unspecified tasks near the country’s shores, a military-diplomatic source said.

The Smetlivy (‘Sharp’) will stay in eastern Mediterranean until early May, the source said. He did not elaborate on the tasks set for the ship.

The Russian Navy has repeatedly said that it wants its ships on constant patrol in the region, which is considered an area of responsibility of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

The six days of drills are taking place in the Yellow Sea off China’s east coast, the official China News Service said, adding they were the first dedicated exercises involving the two navies.

The Fars News Agency reports: “A senior Iranian official announced that the Russian contractor of the Bushehr nuclear power plant will deliver full control of the facility to Iran by the end of autumn.

‘The Russian contractor will definitely deliver the power plant (to the Iranian side) by the end of this autumn,’ Governor-General of Iran’s Southern Bushehr province Mohammad Hossein Jahanbakhsh said on Monday.

Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereidoun Abbasi announced earlier today that the power plant is generating and sending 940 megawatts of electricity to the national power grid.
