NETANYAHU: IF IRAN GOES NUCLEAR, MUSLIM WORLD WILL FOLLOW

Haaretz reports: “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned his Greek counterpart in an impromptu meeting that if Iran managed to develop nuclear weapons, the rest of the Muslim world would follow suit.

Netanyahu met George Papandreou while they two were dining separately at the Pushkin restaurant in Moscow, where the prime minister arrived earlier for talks with Russian officials about Iran’s contentious nuclear program.

Papandreou recognized Netanyahu and asked if he could join the prime minister’s entourage for the evening. The two began by discussing the economic crisis in Greece, but the conversation quickly turned to Israel’s efforts to impose harsher sanctions on Iran.

According to an official traveling with the prime minister, Netanyahu told Papandreou that he was concerned Egypt, Turkey and Saudi Arabia would soon begin their own attempts to develop a nuclear weapon should Iran accomplish its own goal.

Such widespread nuclear development would have negative implications on the whole world, Netanyahu warned, and reiterated that nothing less than harsh sanctions could prevent this phenomenon.

Russia warned Iran meanwhile that it must allay growing international fears over its contentious nuclear program, declaring that the Western push for fresh and harsh sanctions could not be excluded…” (An atomic war is prophesied when the armies of Russia and her Arab allies as well as the Oriental armies march to the Middle East and attack Israel – Ezekiel 38:1, 2, 5-7, 8, 16; Revelation 16:12, Revelation 9:14-18; Joel 3:2, 20, 30; Psalm 83: 4-7. PERES WARNS OF NUCLEAR MIDEAST

The Jerusalem Post reports: “If the world does not unite to stop Iran’s nuclear program, the upshot will be a nuclear Middle East, where ongoing conflicts will be accompanied by nuclear bombs, President Shimon Peres warned during a meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Spindelegger.

Peres said that he was surprised by the foot-dragging of the international community which still seemed reluctant to recognize Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for what he is – ‘a dictator and a murderer who hangs people in the streets, shoots at unarmed civilians, calls for the destruction of a nation and travels the world as if he was a legitimate leader.’

Spindelegger said that the urgency of the Iranian issue was understood in Europe as was the need to act in response to statements made by Ahmadinejad. ‘There is no other way,’ he said.

Spindelegger pledged that Austria, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, would take constructive measures to ensure that sanctions are imposed on Iran. He was hopeful that the Security Council would not delay its discussions of effective sanctions. He also promised that Austria would work within the European Union towards the advancement of such discussions…”

IRAN CLAIMS TO BE AMONG WORLD’S TOP 15 NUCLEAR STATES

Haaretz reports: “Iran is among the top states in terms of its nuclear technology, the country’s atomic chief was quoted as saying Friday by the Fars news agency.

‘Within the 150 IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] member states, we are among the top 15,’ Ali-Akbar Salehi claimed.

‘We are of course not yet at the same level as Japan but within the Islamic world, we are the number one,’ he claimed. ‘Even though Pakistan has the atomic bomb but that does not mean that also it possesses all nuclear technologies,’ he added.

According to the IAEA, 436 power reactors are in operation in 30 different countries, although only a handful of them enrich their own uranium. Iran only plans to begin operations at the Russian-built Bushehr nuclear power plant this year.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that Iran has succeeded in producing its first batch of uranium enriched to 20 per cent. He also claimed his country’s nuclear technicians had the capacity to enrich up to the 80 per cent needed for weapons grade material, and was therefore to be counted among the nuclear powers.

The IAEA monitors had not been able to verify the claims of enrichment capacity to 20 per cent…” (Ezekiel 38:5 mentions Persia as allied with Russia in Ezekiel 38:1, 2 – Persia changed its name to Iran in 1935.)

IRAN TO ‘HIDE NUCLEAR PLANTS INSIDE MOUNTAINS’

Agency France Presse reports: “Iran said it is considering plans to build two new uranium enrichment plants concealed inside mountains to avert air strikes, drawing condemnation from the United States.

The announcement from Iran’s atomic chief Ali Akbar Salehi came soon after top US General David Petraeus warned that Washington would now pursue a ‘pressure track’ against Iran to thwart its galloping nuclear programme.

‘Inshallah (God willing), in the next Iranian year (starting in March) as ordered by the president we may start the construction of two new enrichment sites,’ Salehi told ISNA news agency.

Last November, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Iran would build 10 new uranium enrichment plants, after Tehran was strongly rebuked by world powers for building a second enrichment plant near the Shiite holy city of Qom.

Salehi said the enrichment capacities of the new sites would be similar to the existing facility in the central city of Natanz, where a defiant Tehran is refining uranium despite three sets of UN sanctions.

According to the latest UN nuclear watchdog report, Iran has installed in Natanz 8,610 centrifuges, the device which rotates at supersonic speed to enrich uranium.

Of these, 3,772 centrifuges are actively enriching uranium under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Salehi said the new plants will be equipped with new generation centrifuges and the facilities would be hidden in mountains so as to protect them from ‘any attacks.’…” (Their scheme will fail – Ezekiel 39:1, 2, 12, 13.
