Russia Warns Saudi Arabia against Giving Syria Terrorists Missiles

February 26, 2014 — The Fars News Agency reports: “Russia warned Saudi Arabia against supplying Syrian rebels with shoulder-launched missile launchers, saying such a move would endanger security across the Middle East and beyond.

The Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that it was ‘deeply concerned’ by news reports that Saudi Arabia was planning to buy Pakistani-made shoulder-launched surface-to-air missiles and anti-tank systems for armed Syrian terrorists based in Jordan, Al-Manar reported.

It said that the aim was to alter the balance of power in a planned war by terrorists on the Syrian government, army and people.

‘If this sensitive weapon falls into the hands of extremists and terrorists who have flooded Syria, there is a great probability that in the end it will be used far from the borders of this Middle Eastern country,’ the foreign ministry said…” (Russia, attempting to enlist Islamic nations for a united war against Israel is standing against the western world warning them not to mettle in Syria, Iran and soon in other Muslim nations. Ukraine border guards: Russian troops flowing into Crimea

March 4, 2014 — SpaceDaily.com reports: “Russian troops and military planes were flowing into Crimea on Monday in violation of accords between the two countries, Ukrainian border guards said.

Over the last 24 hours, 10 Russian combat helicopters and eight military cargo planes have landed on the flashpoint Black Sea peninsula, the guards said in a statement, while four Russian warships have been in the port of Sevastopol since Saturday.

Kiev received no warning regarding the troop movements, even though that is required by the international laws regarding the stationing of Russia’s Black Sea navy in Crimea.

Obama Warns Against Russian Intervention in Ukraine

March 2, 2014 — Voice of America News reports: “As Ukrainian leaders accused Russia of carrying out an armed invasion in the Crimea region, U.S. President Barack Obama warned Moscow not to intervene militarily.

‘We are deeply concerned by reports of military movements taken by the Russian Federation inside of Ukraine. Any violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity would be deeply destabilizing,’ said U.S. President Barack Obama.

‘The United States will stand with the international community in affirming that there will be costs for any military intervention in Ukraine,’ Obama added.

He said any military intervention by Russian forces would represent a ‘profound interference’ in the Ukrainian people’s right to determine their own future…”

Prime Minister: Ukraine on Brink of Disaster

March 2, 2014 — The Wall Street Journal reports: “Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said Sunday that his country was ‘on the brink of disaster’ and personally blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for bringing the two nations to the verge of war.

Speaking to reporters at the Ukrainian parliament, Mr. Yatsenyuk called on the international community to rein in Mr. Putin and pressure him to remove troops from the Crimean peninsula, where a majority of residents are ethnic Russians but have Ukrainian passports.

‘If President Putin wants to be the president who starts the war between two friendly and neighboring countries, he has [almost] reached this target,’ Mr. Yatsenyuk said. ‘We are on the brink of disaster. There was no reason for the Russian Federation to invade Ukraine.’…”

Crimea votes to join Russia, accelerating Ukraine crisis

March 6, 2014 — Reuters reports: “Crimea’s parliament voted to join Russia on Thursday and its Moscow-backed government set a referendum within 10 days on the decision in a dramatic escalation of the crisis over the Ukrainian Black Sea peninsula.

The sudden acceleration of moves to bring Crimea, which has an ethnic Russian majority and has effectively been seized by Russian forces, formally under Moscow’s rule came as European Union leaders gathered for an emergency summit to find ways to pressure Russia to back down.

U.S. President Barack Obama took steps to punish those involved in threatening the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, ordering the freezing of their U.S. assets and a ban on travel into the United States…”

Ukraine crisis: Crimea vote ‘will not be recognised’

March 7, 2014 — BBC News reports: “Ukraine’s interim prime minister has warned the Crimean parliament ‘no-one in the civilised world’ will recognise its referendum on joining Russia.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk and others in the Kiev government have called the vote ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘illegitimate’.

But the referendum has the support of the Russian parliament.

The speaker of the upper house said if the Crimean people vote on 16 March to join Russia then they would ‘unquestionably back this choice’.

The decision by Crimean MPs to seek to join the Russian Federation comes amid international tensions over the presence of pro-Russian troops in the southern Ukrainian peninsula.

Moscow has said it ‘will not accept the language of sanctions and threats’ after the EU and US announced punitive measures against Russia on Thursday…”
