US condemns ‘tyrannical’ arrest of Scottish anti-abortion campaigner

Telegraph.co.uk reports: “The Trump administration has condemned the ‘tyrannical’ arrest of a Scottish anti-abortion campaigner for breaching the country’s buffer zone laws.

Rose Docherty, 75, was detained by police on Wednesday for standing across the road from Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital while holding a sign that read: ‘Coercion is a crime, here to talk, only if you want.’

Footage of the incident shows the grandmother-of-two being loaded into a police van by four officers before she was allegedly left in a cell for two hours without a chair, despite having undergone two hip replacements.

It is the second time she has been arrested for breaching Scotland’s buffer zone laws, which are enforced within 200m of every hospital, forbidding harassment, intimidation and ‘influencing’ of anyone seeking to access abortion services.

Ms Docherty was charged and released on bail under conditions that ban her from entering an area surrounding the hospital…”
