Israel’s ‘super goal’: Dismantling Hamas’s terror-tunnels remains top priority

The Jerusalem Post reports: “Israel will make dismantling Hamas’ vast tunnel network its top battlefield priority inside Gaza’s ‘yellow zone,’ Defense Minister Israel Katz said Saturday, asserting in a post on X/Twitter that about 60% of the tunnels still exist, two years after the Oct. 7, 2023, attack that triggered the war and reshaped the region.

Under the US-brokered Gaza deal agreed two weeks ago and backed by several Arab states, Israeli forces pulled back to a ‘yellow zone,’ a belt along Gaza’s northern, southern, and eastern edges inside the territory.

Katz framed tunnel destruction as Israel’s strategic ‘super goal,’ arguing that neutralizing subterranean infrastructure now is essential to prevent Hamas from regrouping under the truce and to set conditions for longer-term security arrangements…”
