Live updates: Iran threatens US forces, reasserts Strait control

B(NewsNation) — Iran warned Thursday it would launch “long and painful strikes” against the United States positions if Washington renewed attacks, while also reaffirming its control over the Strait of Hormuz. This move that could complicate U.S. efforts to build a coalition to reopen the key waterway.

A senior Revolutionary Guards official said that even limited U.S. strikes would trigger a broader response across the region. Aerospace Force Commander Majid Mousavi, quoted by Iranian media, warned that U.S. military assets, including regional bases and warships, could be targeted.

President Donald Trump has said the Strait of Hormuz will stay blockaded until Iran comes to the table on a nuclear deal.

Axios reports that the president is expected to receive a briefing from U.S. Central Command on Thursday on whether additional strikes may be needed to pressure Iran back to the negotiating table, with all options on the table if talks stall.

“They have a small percentage of missile-making facilities. We knocked out about 80% of them. The rest could come very quickly if we don’t make a deal. They’re not going to have a nuclear weapon. They know it, and just about everybody else does,” Trump said.
