Help

Help from friends in times of trouble is always appreciated. Acts of love by others when we are in distress make us aware of the value of friends and fellow Christians, members of the family of God. There is a tie that binds our hearts in Christian love and in John Fawcett’s great hymn, “Blest Be The Tie That Binds,” he speaks of the blessing of helping one another.

“We share our mutual woes, Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows the sympathizing tear.”

But there are times when the help of man is not enough. Times of trouble come that are beyond the reach of any earthly helping hand. The Psalmist saw those times and said of them, “…vain is the help of man”.

Jesus specialized in helping those who had been given up by others. He healed ten lepers who were outcasts from their people. He raised the daughter of Jairus who had died. He restored health to a woman who had spent all her living on physicians seeking help. He called dead Lazarus from the grave after he had been dead four days.

You may be facing a problem that is beyond the help of man. Friends have been sympathetic, but your burden remains. Doctors have done their best to no avail. Financial experts have figured and refigured and have found no way out but bankruptcy.

Counselors have exhausted their training and wisdom and your problems still is not solved.

It’s time to call on the Lord in faith. Many have stood where you stand now and have been rescued by the Saviour. Long prayers are not required. Just call for help.

As the Lord answers, honor Him before others. Witness to His faithfulness. Your troubles will turn to triumph through the help of the Lord!
