TERRORIST THREAT

IAEA chief sounds warning on ‘nuclear terrorism’

SpaceDaily.com reports: “The head of the UN atomic agency warned against complacency in preventing ‘nuclear terrorism’, saying progress in recent years should not lull the world into a false sense of security.

‘Much has been achieved in the past decade,’ Yukiya Amano of the International Atomic Energy Agency told a gathering in Vienna of some 1,200 delegates from around 110 states including 35 ministers to review progress on the issue.

‘Many countries have taken effective measures to prevent theft, sabotage, unauthorised access, illegal transfer, or other malicious acts involving nuclear or other radioactive material. Security has been improved at many facilities containing such material.’

Partly as a result, he said, ‘there has not been a terrorist attack involving nuclear or other radioactive material.’

‘But this must not lull us into a false sense of security. If a ‘dirty bomb’ is detonated in a major city, or sabotage occurs at a nuclear facility, the consequences could be devastating.

‘Nuclear terrorism’ comprises three main risks: an atomic bomb, a ‘dirty bomb’ — conventional explosion spreading radioactive material — and an attack on a nuclear plant…” (One of the most prominent signs pointing to Christ’s return is terrorism – Matthew 24:37; Genesis 6:11. In Luke 21: 9 Jesus warned: “But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things [terrorism] must first come to passthen shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory” in verses 27 and 28 “…then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” – The rapture of the body. Terror group poses new threat to U.S.

WND.com reports: “A Pakistani terrorist group involved in the notorious Mumbai, India, terrorist attack in 2008 is becoming a new threat to the U.S. homeland, according to a report in Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.

It is the Lashkar-e-Taiba, or LeT, which analysts agree is posing an increasing threat to the United States.

Affiliated with al-Qaida, LeT is one of Pakistan’s oldest Sunni militant groups, according to Stephen Tankel of the Washington think-tank Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Tankel said LeT is an emerging threat at this stage and believes the United States needs to reallocate intelligence resources to focus more on this Islamist militant group.

LeT has put the U.S. on its enemies list and has been actively attacking U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan since 2005…”

Canada foils al-Qaida-inspired plot to bomb Canada Day event

The Jerusalem Post reports: “Canadian police said on Tuesday [7/2/13] they foiled an al-Qaida-inspired plot to detonate three pressure-cooker bombs during Monday’s Canada Day holiday outside the parliament building in the Pacific coast city of Victoria, arresting a Canadian man and woman and seizing their home-made explosive devices.

Police said there was no evidence to suggest a foreign link to the planned attack, which targeted public celebrations outside the parliament building in Victoria, capital of the province of British Columbia.

They declined to detail any links between the two Canadians and the al-Qaida network. They also said they were not aware of any connection to the April 15 bombings at the Boston Marathon in which three people were killed by devices built from pressure cookers.

‘This self-radicalized behavior was intended to create maximum impact on a national holiday,’ Wayne Rideout, assistant commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, told a news conference.

‘They took steps to educate themselves and produced explosive devices designed to cause injury and death.’ Police said there was no risk to the public at any time because they began monitoring the suspects in February and had known all along what was happening…”
